Graham gets just Desert

Sun, sand and not a lot of water........

As a challenge events fundraiser I have supported many a crazy challenger over the years, but I believe that Graham Black’s challenge takes some beating!

This is because this weekend Graham is taking on the infamous Marathon de Sable, and if you haven’t heard of it, you are probably quite sensible!  To complete his challenge Graham will run over 250km (156 miles) over 6 days, through endless dunes and across white-hot salt plains.  For a man “not good in the heat” and a self-confessed “ginger” the sun will pose a huge problem with temperatures regularly reaching 50 centigrade. The sand will be a close second, clouds of it under his feet, sheets of it stinging his eyes and lots of it chafing where it shouldn’t.

And if you are thinking, well at least he can get a shower and good night’s sleep between the brutal days of running………..think again!  Your luxury sleeping quarters on this adventure will be communal goats hair Berber tents!  Nice!

And if the sun, sand and sleeping conditions have not been enough to send you insane, don’t worry because the water rationing will!  Graham will have to survive on strict rations of water despite losing around 2.5 litres of sweat per hour.  All in all, this is a mammoth undertaking, and one that Graham has been preparing hard for.

To add to Graham’s awesomeness, he has also set himself an incredible fundraising target of £3500.00 which will provide specialist care for a child for one week.  What an amazing difference this money will make to the children and family who rely on the hospice.  We really do hope that this thought will help Graham through the tough times that inevitably lie ahead.

If you would like to send some encouragement and support to graham on his herculean task, please do visit his JUST GIVING PAGE.  Here you can find out a bit more about the man himself, his inspiration and his preparation.
