Santa Ride fundraiser attracts huge crowds
This year’s Boundary 500 Santa Ride saw over 140 motorbikes take over the streets of Teesside in spectacular fashion!
The annual fundraiser, which has now raised over £377,000 over a 17-year period, saw thousands of onlookers line the streets, as festive bikers weave their way through Thornaby, Stockton, Middlesbrough, and Redcar – taking in various focal points along the way.
However, none of this would be possible without Brian Laverick, the orchestrator of this fabulous family event.
He said: “I’m proud of where we’ve got to. Events like this do not happen overnight and I feel privileged that I can call on several people to ensure that it takes place.”
“Hopefully when this year’s sponsorship is counted, we could break through the £400,000 barrier. The support for the event from the local community has been unbelievable and local media is always awash with thousands of photos, videos and thank you messages too.”
“All those years ago, the staff at the hospice were a little surprised at what I wanted to achieve, but I was full of enthusiasm and determination. Seeing where we have got to by working together is really heartwarming – especially knowing our fundraising efforts are going to help some very special children.”
As many of you know, Zoe’s Place provides a home from home for local families, who have children with life limiting or life-threatening conditions, so donations like this are crucial… especially because it takes over £1.5 million in running costs per year to run.
Rachael Bareham, Community and Events Fundraiser said: “When Brian first approached me, I couldn’t wait to help him out. Especially knowing that big events like this go along way for the families and children who visit the hospice.”
“Seeing it become as huge as it is, is testament to Brain’s hard work, along with Cleveland police and the authorities. It also wouldn’t happen without the motorcyclists, who return every year to take part. I’d also like to thank all of the more recent participants – who signed up for this years ride.”
“We’ve also had lots of volunteers this year from Erimus and Stokesley Rotary and Redcar and Cleveland College – along with our own volunteers, who helped us collect donations right across the route.”
“You are all incredible.”
Zoe’s Place and Brain Laverick would also like to give thanks to Middlesbrough Council, Stockton Council, and Redcar and Cleveland Council.
