Annual Canoe Challenge raises over £3,000 for Zoe’s Place, Liverpool
In a brilliant day, 14 participants across 6 boats took on the 22-mile Zoe’s Place Ultimate Canoe Challenge, raising over £3,000 in support of the incredible work of Zoe’s Place.
The event was a roaring success, especially as no participants fell in the water!
Despite some early rain, which added to the challenge, the weather soon turned, and the paddlers were rewarded with beautiful sunshine and picturesque views. For many, the journey was more than just about completing the 22 miles—it was a day of reflection, relaxation, and giving back. Many participants described the event as surprisingly peaceful, making the experience both enjoyable and meaningful.
Among the participants this year was Edel, who took on the challenge, with her friend Alex, for a third year. Edel and her family have a deep connection to Zoe’s Place, having used the Snowdrop Suite, a specialised area of the hospice dedicated to bereavement care. Edel takes part in the event in memory of her son, Tommy.
Reflecting on her experience, Edel said:
“I’m trying to give a little back…for what Zoe’s Place did for me. They were brilliant…there’s nothing I can do in this world to thank them enough for what they [did] for me.”
A massive thank you goes out to everyone who helped make this event possible, particularly to Graham, who donates his time and canoes year after year to support this challenge.
The funds raised from the Ultimate Canoe Challenge will help Zoe’s Place continue its vital work, including providing palliative, respite, and end-of-life care to children with life-limiting conditions, as well as bereavement support to families through facilities like the Snowdrop Suite.
