Coventry Fundraising Fundraising news

The Starley Sportive is back again this year, bringing together cyclists and supporters for a cause that touches the lives of countless families. Organized by Coventry’s Deeley Group and Coventry Road Club, this annual event has become a crucial fundraiser for Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice. The Starley Sportive is more than just a cycling event—it’s a lifeline for our hospice and the families we support.

Mark your calendars for Sunday, 22nd September, when cyclists will take to the roads once more, riding to raise funds that directly benefit the children, here at Zoe’s Place. Among these children is Otis Brown, whose incredible journey was recently highlighted in a story that has captured hearts far and wide. Born prematurely and facing serious medical challenges, including complex epilepsy and cerebral palsy, Otis has been a regular at our hospice. His story is one of resilience, and it’s a testament to the difference that events like the Starley Sportive can make.

For a young boy who has faced so many obstacles, being recognized and celebrated in this way was a precious moment. His parents, Terri-Ann and Joshua were equally touched, “They wrote it up beautifully,” they shared.

The impact of the Starley Sportive goes beyond the funds it raises; it significantly boosts the morale of the families we support. Knowing that their child’s story is part of something bigger—that their community is rallying behind them—brings a profound sense of validation and support. For Otis and his family, being part of the Zoe’s Place community, and seeing that community celebrated through events like the Starley Sportive, makes them feel valued and less alone in their journey.

Edward Hudson, Business Development Manager at Deeley Group, emphasized the importance of supporting Zoe’s Place. “Zoe’s Place offers such a vital service to families in their darkest hour. The respite care, in particular, really is a lifeline. We’re honoured to once again be supporting Zoe’s Place with some of the proceeds from this year’s Starley Sportive

Operating Zoe’s Place requires significant funding. We face a £1.2 million shortfall each year, with only 15% of our budget covered by direct funding. Contributions from events like the Starley Sportive are vital; last year’s event alone helped us operate for a full day.

So, whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or someone who simply believes in making a difference, we invite you to join us on September 22nd for the Starley Sportive. Your participation helps ensure that children like Otis continue to receive the care they deserve. Let’s ride together to make sure every child and family feels valued and supported—one pedal at a time.
